Our client is recruiting for an SC or DV cleared Power & Control Engineer / Engineering Manager to lead the engineering delivery of the RAF Fylingdales Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR) Operations & Maintenance (O&M). This is a contract role starting ASAP until 31/03/2026 for 4 days per week. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement between working from home and being onsite in Bristol. The day rate is negotiable dependent upon experience.

Due to the nature of the role and the timescales involved candidates must already hold an active SC clearance and be willing and eligible to undergo DV clearance checks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to the Lead Engineer for the delivery of the Engineering artifacts for an OBI in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Responsible to the Lead Engineer for the Engineering Management Plan for their scope of work and the management of technical authorship within their scope of work. This includes being accountable for all Engineering owned information products applicable to the project.
  • Articulate and identify the engineering products, activities or services to be undertaken in an Engineering Management Plan.
  • The Engineer shall:
    • Adhere to appropriate engineering processes including the application of GEAR (Tailored according to risks), including but not limited to, JSP440 and JSP604, DefStan 00-051 and 00-056, and adherence to other relevant government, industry and domain standards.
    • Provide as a Subject Matter Expert, authoring, reviewing or approving Engineering Function content internally or from the contractor.
    • Lead and provide electrical power and distribution Engineering advise to the Lead Engineer to maintain the operational availability of the SSPAR, addressing obsolescence and maintenance.
    • File documents in accordance with the “Manage Information” process
    • Manage technical risk and use engineering judgement to escalate where necessary.
    • Support the development and maintenance of the equipment safety case.
    • Promote an open safety culture in the engineering team, including psychological safety where team members are encouraged to raise technical concerns.
    • Facilitating effective communication between Engineering, ODF, PM across the team and other stakeholders.

EXPERIENCE

Experience of:

  • Delivery and sustainment of complex high power, high availability sensors and systems
  • Installation and replacement of Power and distribution systems
  • Working in an ITAR/TAA environment
  • Working with Site Co-ordinating Installation Design Authority (SCIDA) and compliance to JSP604 leaflet 4800.
  • Writing system Operation and Maintenance requirements
  • Monitoring contractor performance though engineering KPIs
