OVERVIEW
These roles sit within the Team Headquarters, working in a joint office with personnel from multiple MoD organisations and industry partners.
It is a hub of activity and requires on-site presence for classified co-located working. Nominally, all members spend 2 or 3 days a week at the joint office and the remainder from remote locations. The role also requires occasional travel to industry sites (e.g. Warton, Filton, Luton & Edinburgh).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Scope / Task Deliverables
- As a Programme / Project Manager at with a focus on the Flight Test Aircraft (FTA), you will form part of a small PM team (+ PC, Cmrcl, Technical, MoD).
- You will be responsible for managing a significant part of the portfolio to more than just budget and schedule; consideration also needs to be given to cross-portfolio coherence, value for money, wider strategical dependencies, and the real-world integrity of plans and proposals.
- Other responsibilities include normal PM practices such as risk and issue management.
- Support the delivery of one or more of the Workstreams (Advanced Aircraft & Mission Systems; Power & Propulsion; Sensing & Comms; Airframe Technologies; Critical Enablers):
- a. Act as a member of a cross functional team including industry embeds, MOD staff, and contractors, be accountable to the Team Tempest Senior Leadership Team for the delivery of a significant proportion of the Technology portfolio to time, cost and performance.
- b. Support the Team PM lead for your Workstream(s), creating and maintaining good working relationships with the respective MOD Technical Leads and Industry leadership teams.
- c. Attend working groups and Programme & Technical Reviews for your Workstream(s) to co-ordinate plans, ensure alignment with other Workstreams and escalate issues as required.
- d. Embody the Team Tempest culture and demonstrate this through your ways of working with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Experience of leading and managing a project management team delivering complex portfolio projects.
- APM PMQ / APMP or equivalent qualification (or similar breadth of PM experience)
- Understanding of EVM principles (to enable adaptation for the unique Tempest construct)
- Experience of Agile methodologies and/or portfolio management
- Experience with business cases and working with senior decision makers
- Prior experience of combat air systems
- Prior experience of research and development delivery or complex programme/portfolio management.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Any of the following: APM PMQ/MSP/PRINCE2, MAPM ChPP or RPP, relevant Post-Graduate qualification i.e. MSc (Project Management), PLP.
- DV clearance – otherwise expected once in post
- Engineering degree or experience delivering technically challenging projects in the R&D and/or product development stages.
